Former GM wants Washington Commanders to sign Dalvin Cook

Dalvin Cook is currently without a team and Washington leaders should look him up. According to former NFL General Manager Michael Lombardi, the Washington franchise should look into getting their roster back.

He based his views on a change of ownership coming soon with the leadership soon to be owned by Josh Harris. They will be looking to make some moves to bring in the Rectangle name and add some excitement to the team.

With no popular running backs on the market right now, getting a free agent running again like Dalvin Cook might make more sense.

Lombardi said on “The Pat McAfee Show”:

“For me, Washington should be all over Dalvin Cook because they need a reboot that can be electric… Washington is going through a change of ownership, so, maybe that limits how much money they can spend.

“We’ll know that by July 20th, but I predict that based on what I think will make the team better.”

How important would Dalvin Cook be to Washington’s leaders if they got him?

Michael Lombardi continued that he sees it not just as a suitable fit due to a change in ownership, but due to the needs of the team, and added that they have a new offensive coordinator in Eric Beniemi.

He came out of a program with the Kansas City Chiefs, where they had arguably the best quarterback in the NFL in Patrick Mahomes.

Now, he must start with Sam Howell, who has not been tested in the league. So, adding this threat would be beneficial for him.

he added:

“If Washington had Dalvin Cook to join Sam Howell, a rookie, in Eric Bienemy’s West Coast offense, I think that would take a lot of pressure off the young quarterback.”

“Washington for me should be everywhere Dalvin Cook… They need an electric playmaker and he will take a lot of pressure off Sam Howell.”@employee #PMSLive

It’s not the worst idea ever thrown around. Last season, all three other teams in their division made the playoffs. The New York Giants made it to the Divisional Round, the Dallas Cowboys did too, and the Philadelphia Eagles made it to the Super Bowl.

So, it’s not going to be easy for them, and as Coach Ron Rivera demonstrated last season, the difference between them and other teams is the quarterback.

If this problem recurs with Sam Howell this season, they should have a running option available in the offensive backfield. As Lombardi said, Dalvin Cook may be the answer that keeps them competitive.
