Based on the voter ID and Aadhaar card seized from his possession, the police identified the suspect as Santosh Atramam Rathod (35), a resident of Divate village in Shivgaon taluka, Ahmednagar district. We have received information that Rathod may have deceived several people under the pretense of giving them jobs in government organizations using a false designation. An officer from the Ahmed Najjar Crimes Branch, who is investigating the case, said, “We are investigating whether he was trying to reach sensitive institutions in Ahmed Najjar and outside, using his fake identity.” Rathod was booked under the relevant sections of the Indian Penal Code relating to forgery, forgery for fraud, impersonation of a public servant, wearing the uniform and carrying a symbol as a public servant.
Several cases of fraudsters, posing as military and defense personnel, are being investigated by the police authorities in Poona, Ahmednagar and Nashik over the past few years, following input from MI.
