Earlier in the day, the Indian Meteorological Department (IMD) on Saturday said that the monsoon has advanced up to Alibag in Raigad district of Maharashtra and is likely to move further and hit Mumbai in the next 48 hours.

The monsoon finally arrived in Mumbai on Saturday afternoon, resulting in waterlogging in several parts of the city after heavy rains. Traffic jams were seen in many areas where vehicular movement was affected due to waterlogging.

Andheri Subway has been closed to vehicular traffic due to waterlogging and traffic has been diverted towards Swami Vivekananda Road. Other areas like Jafar Khan Road near Worli Sealink Gate, Asalpha, Sakinaka Junction, BD Road and Mahalaxmi Temple were also waterlogged.

“The southwest monsoon has advanced further to some other parts of central Arabian Sea, some other parts of Maharashtra, remaining parts of Karnataka, Telangana, Chhattisgarh, some parts of eastern Madhya Pradesh, some other parts of Uttar Pradesh, and most parts of Uttarakhand and Himachal Pradesh, some parts of Haryana, Jammu, Kashmir and Ladakh,” the “Northern Monsoon Limit (NLM)” now passes through Alibag, Solapur, Udgir, Nagpur (in Maharashtra), Mandla, Sonbhadra, Buxar, Siddharthnagar, Pantnagar, Bijnor, Yamunanagar, Una and Dras .

Conditions are favorable for further advance of the southwest monsoon over most parts of Maharashtra, including Mumbai, Madhya Pradesh, Uttar Pradesh, remaining parts of Bihar, Uttarakhand, Himachal Pradesh, Jammu and Kashmir and Ladakh, and some other parts of Haryana, including Chandigarh, the IMD said in a statement. Delhi and some parts of Gujarat, eastern Rajasthan and Punjab, over the next two days.
