Prime Minister Modi will be here from 24-25 June and this is his first state visit to Egypt. This will also be the first bilateral visit by an Indian prime minister in 26 years
After concluding his visit to the United States, Prime Minister Narendra Modi arrived in Cairo on Saturday for a two-day visit, and was received at the airport by Egyptian Prime Minister Mostafa Madbouly.
Via Twitter, Prime Minister Modi thanked Madhubule for the “special gesture of welcoming me at the airport” and added, “I hope India-Egypt relations will flourish and benefit the people of our countries.”
Modi also held his first bilateral meeting with his counterpart, Madbouly, and discussed deepening trade and economic relations with Egypt. Modi met with India Unity, a new group of high-ranking Egyptian ministers led by Madbouly.

External Affairs Ministry spokesman Arindam Bagchi said on Twitter that the two leaders held discussions on deepening cooperation across a range of areas including trade, investment, renewable energy, green hydrogen, information technology, digital payment platforms, medicine and people-to-people relations.
After that, Prime Minister Modi met His Eminence Professor Shawky Ibrahim Allam, the Mufti of Egypt later in the day. The two discussed the “strong cultural and people-to-people ties between India and Egypt”.
The discussions also focused on issues related to social and religious harmony in society and combating extremism and radicalism. The Grand Mufti expressed his appreciation for the prime minister’s role in promoting inclusivity and pluralism.”

In between these meetings, Modi was seen meeting and interacting with members of the Indian diaspora and said he was “deeply touched” by their warm welcome.

Modi is visiting at the invitation of President Abdel Fattah El-Sisi. Modi’s visit came 6 months after Sisi attended India’s Republic Day parade as an official guest.
Prime Minister Modi’s schedule for the second day of his visit to Egypt
- On Sunday, Prime Minister Modi is scheduled to visit the Al-Hakim Mosque.
- The prime minister spends about half an hour at Al-Hakim Mosque, a landmark, historic mosque in Cairo named after the 16th Fatimid Caliph Al-Hakim bi-Amr Allah (985-1021).
- Prime Minister Modi will also visit the War Cemetery Cemetery in Heliopolis to honor the Indian soldiers who made the ultimate sacrifice for Egypt during World War I.
India and Egypt
Egypt has always been one of India’s most important trading partners on the African continent.
Bilateral trade between the two countries reached $4.55 billion in 2018-2019 and decreased slightly to $4.15 billion in 2020-21 despite the Covid-19 pandemic, news agency PTI He said.
India is one of the top 5 importers of Egyptian products. These include crude oil, liquefied natural gas, salt, cotton, inorganic chemicals, and oilseeds, according to the AP.
The main Indian exports to Egypt include cotton yarn, coffee, herbs, tobacco, lentils, spare parts for vehicles, ships and boats, and electrical machinery.
To date, more than 50 Indian companies have invested around $3.15 billion in various parts of the Egyptian economy, including chemicals, energy, textiles, apparel, agribusiness and retail, according to MEA.
