Officials said the fate of the infiltrators was unclear because the location of the encounter was in front of the border fence and the three were seen falling before being taken to the other side.
The Pakistani army said on Saturday that three Pakistani infiltrators were shot dead by security forces when they tried to infiltrate the Indian side across the Line of Control in Poonch district of Jammu and Kashmir.
Officials said the fate of the infiltrators was unclear because the location of the encounter was in front of the border fence and the three were seen falling before being taken to the other side.
However, the Pakistan Army claimed that two “civilians” were killed and another wounded in firing by Indian forces, and the Indian Army said that an anti-infiltration intelligence operation was launched jointly by the army and police.
A soldier was also wounded in the exchange of fire with the intruders in the Krishna Ghati sector, where an intense search operation is underway after the infiltration attempt was successfully thwarted on the night of 23-24 June. In a tweet on its official Jammu White Knight Corps said an infiltration attempt in the Krishna Ghati sector on 23/24 June was eliminated, with one soldier wounded by gunfire and evacuated. 3 infiltrators running towards the LC (Line of Control) are battled by Special Forces and seen falling near the LC.
The officials said the encounter took place in the Ranger Nala forward area late on Friday night when Indian forces noticed at least three heavily armed terrorists trying to infiltrate India under cover of thick foliage and darkness. The Pakistani military claimed in two statements that “civilians” – 22-year-old Obaid Qayyum and 55-year-old Muhammad Qasim – were killed and another wounded in the shooting of “a group of herdsmen” in the Stowal sector.
Four terrorists were killed on Friday when Indian security forces thwarted an infiltration attempt along the Line of Control in Machel sector. On June 16, security forces killed five heavily armed foreign terrorists belonging to a group led by an Afghan war veteran along the Line of Control in Kupwara district.
Last month, two terrorists were killed in an encounter during an infiltration attempt along the Line of Control in Kupwara district.
