Officials said that within hours of the collision, the Addra-Midnapore section was restored to regular train services and the first train passed at 8.35am.

“The line reaches up for train traffic at 7.45am. Some trains have been cancelled. The cause of the collision has not yet been confirmed. A Southeastern official said earlier that efforts were underway to assess what caused the accident.

So far, officials said, 14 trains have been cancelled, three trains have been diverted and two trains have been derailed for a short time at the damaged station in Adra district. The accident occurred at four in the morning.

They added that more trains are likely to be canceled due to the accident.
