A 71-year-old farmer in Baudouin district, who allegedly took poison in Sadar Tehsil’s office and died during treatment on Friday, left behind a suicide note alleging he took the extreme step after two revenue officials “moved a plot of land registered in his name.” another for a bribe.
The police identified the farmer as Rom Singh from Naglaa Sharqi village in Budawon district. He died while being treated in the early hours of Friday after taking poison in Techelle’s office at Baudouin district headquarters. A case has been registered at Kotwali Police Station against two revenue officials – Lekhpal Kuldip Bharadwaj and Tehsildar Ashish Saxena – who, according to the complaint, took money from Ekta Varnan – the third accused – in whose name the two officials illegally transferred land in the revenue records.”
The three people were booked under IPC Sections 167 (public servant framing an incorrect document with the intent to cause injury) and 306 (incitement to commit suicide). While Tehsildar Saxena was attached to the district headquarters, Lekhpal Bharadwaj was suspended. An administrative investigation is being conducted by Baudouin Additional District Judge F. K. Singh.
Family members and villagers staged a protest at the Jawaharpur police station earlier on Friday.
Rajeev Kumar, house officer of Kotwali station, said the complaint bears the names of the accused. Kumar said the investigation is on.
The complaint, which was registered by Sandeep Rathore, the son of the deceased, reads as follows: “My father got a signed deed for a plot of land with family member Mouni Devi and her son Kuldip Rathore on 1st June 2016. Based on this deed was signed on 7th March 2017 based on On the previously signed deed the land was registered in my father’s name and the same was entered in the revenue records. Almost six years later, the land was transferred to Ecta Farnan and her minor child. After learning of this, my father spoke on several occasions to the officials (mentioned above) but they refused act.”
