“Why is this door closed?” Karnataka Chief Minister Siddaramaiah asked his staff to point to the south door of his office on the third floor of Vedana Sudha in Bengaluru on Saturday to review Anna Bhajia’s plan for the Congress government.
He was informed by an official that it has been closed for the past few years due to ‘Vastu’ (traditional Indian architectural system) reasons, and it would not be auspicious for a prime minister to walk through the door. A few prime ministers in the past reportedly believed that opening the south door to the chamber would be detrimental to their political functions.
However, disregarding the advice, Siddaramaiah ordered the staff to immediately open the door and entered the office through it. He also took the same door out after the meeting.
Siddaramaiah, who is known to be an atheist, later said, “A clean conscience, a pro-people approach, good air and light in the room are all necessary for a better ‘Vastu’, and nothing else.”
He also posted a Kannada tweet, roughly translating to: “Opened the south door of the Chief Minister’s office at Vedana Sudha, which has been closed for five years due to structural defects, and entered the office through the same door. There is no vastness better if the room is well ventilated and lit. If it is The deed and the words are pure, then everything will be auspicious. The blessings of the people are upon us.”
