“When Jorge came to write it down, I almost killed him”

While Lionel Messi is one of the most famous people in the world, the Argentine’s name was due to a misspelling from his father, Jorge. Messi’s mother, Celia, revealed the secret behind his son’s name.

Messi is one of the greatest players who have graced the beautiful game. He is also a very popular character among fans. However, Celia wanted to name his son Lionel instead of Lionel.

But Jorge Messi recorded it as Lionel, as he thought Messi’s mother referred to the famous singer Lionel Richie. Recalling the incident, Celia said (via AS Tikitakas):

“When Jorge came to write it, I almost killed him.”

Despite the huge mistake, Lionel Messi achieved results during his professional career. He has been hugely successful with Barcelona. The star striker also won the America’s Cup and World Cup with Argentina. The player celebrates his 36th birthday on June 24.

Kylian Mbappe wishes Lionel Messi on his birthday

Lionel Messi’s former PSG teammate Kylian Mbappe wished the Argentine on his birthday. Messi and Mbappe shared the field 67 times with the Parisians, scoring 34 goals.

However, they were no longer teammates, as Messi played his last game for the Parisians. Despite this, Mbappe wished Messi on his birthday with a heartfelt post:

“Happy birthday legend. @Leo Messi. Have the best possible day with your family and friends. Thank you for those two years together in Paris, I learned so much from you as a player, partner, opponent and man. For that alone I am grateful. Good luck on your new adventure.”

Messi will start a new journey in his career after that. He is ready to join Major League Soccer club Inter Miami as a free agent. The move would mark the end of Messi’s time in European football, after he scored 496 goals in the continent’s five major leagues.
