Inter Miami co-owner Jorge Mas has confirmed that Lionel Messi will make his MLS debut on July 21 against Cruz Azul. The match will be played at the DRV PNK stadium, the club’s home ground.

The match will be in the League Cup, a tournament involving teams from MLS and Liga MX. With Messi expected to make his debut against Cruz Azul, Mas confirmed that the club is looking to tighten security measures inside the stadium. He said (via Daily Mail):

“Obviously security will be beefed up. Players will be bussed in, through a tunnel. All these security protocols are already in place here and outside. And it’s not just for our games.”

Maas added:

“It will be an everyday occurrence and something that we witnessed and I think was handled very well when he (Messi) was here with Argentina before the World Cup. As you may remember, Argentina trained in Miami before they traveled to Doha.”

He also said:

“We’ve had the opportunity to see some of the Messi-mania on our doors on a daily basis during training. So, we’re very prepared. We’ve prepared for that.”

Lionel Messi’s move to Inter Miami was confirmed earlier this month. The player will leave PSG as a free agent when his contract expires on June 30.

Lionel Messi will join Sergio Busquets at Inter Miami

With Lionel Messi’s debut at Inter Miami imminent, interest in the identity of his future teammates has grown. There will be a familiar face alongside Messi on the pitch. Barcelona legend Sergio Busquets was recently announced as the new signing for the MLS club.

Busquets has already played his last match for Barcelona. He will join the Miami-based team as a free agent after that. Messi and Busquets have shared the field 567 times during their time at Barcelona.

Despite this, the David Beckham-owned side is currently in the rock bottom of the MLS Eastern Conference. Thus, Messi and Busquets will need to get into their groove as soon as possible to save the season for the club.
