On June 3, Aaron Judge of the New York Yankees crashed through an outfield gate at Dodger Stadium. While the play was instantly dumped onto highlight reels everywhere, things weren’t what they seemed.
Although the Yankees captain seemed fine on the play, subsequent analysis revealed that the 6-foot-7 outfielder had broken his toe. On June 24, the judge took matters a step further, declaring that he had torn ligaments in his toe.
Speaking to the press the same day, Yankees manager Aaron Boone said that while he expects Aaron Judge to return to the lineup this season, he can’t give a guarantee.

Understandably, Boone’s comments set off thousands of alarm bells among New York Yankees fans. Many took to Twitter to share their feelings of awe upon hearing of the latest developments.
When it comes to the Yankees’ honesty about injuries, fans have trust issues. Player Carlos Rodon, who was a competitor for Cy Young last season, has yet to start this season after he was supposed to be “day in and day out” with a sore back.
Since Judge left the lineup, the Yankees have a record of 6-10. Of their 10 losses, six have come at the hands of the Boston Red Sox, including a three-game sweep at Fenway Park last weekend.
At the time of his injury, Aaron Judge was hitting .291/.404/.674 with 40 RBIs and 19 home runs. He has since been bested by Shuhei Ohtani of the Los Angeles Angels, who hit his 25th home run of the season on June 23.

As much as Aaron Boone needs to put on a strong face, the fan base has clearly called his bluff. As such, the team will now need to enter a phase of damage control intended to mitigate the massive impact it would have on the Yankees from a public relations standpoint.
But with fellow slackers like Anthony Rizzo and Giancarlo Stanton experiencing the worst career slumps, it seems Judge may be an irreplaceable part of the team.
