10 killed in bus accident in Odisha’s Ganjam district

At least 10 people were killed and several others injured in a head-on collision between two buses under Digapahandi police boundary in Gangam district of Odisha.

Official sources said the accident occurred at around 1 am when a private bus returning from Berhampur collided with the state-run Odisha State Road Transport Corporation which was coming from the opposite direction from Godari in Rayagada district.

Berhampur SP Saravana Vivek M confirmed the death of 10 and said that the injured are receiving the necessary treatment by a team of doctors. Preliminary investigations indicate that it was a head-on collision. We are trying to ascertain more details. All the injured were rescued by local fire and police services teams and taken to hospital.”

All the dead and seriously injured were in the special bus, and were returning after attending a marriage ceremony in Berhampur. Six seriously injured persons are under treatment at MKCG Medical College and Hospital in Berhampur while one injured person has been sent to SCB Medical College and Hospital in Cuttack for further treatment.

While the driver of one of the two buses involved in the accident is undergoing treatment, the police said they are looking for the driver of the other bus.
