Copenhagen: DenmarkThe Ukrainian government said on Monday that the training of Ukrainian pilots on F-16 aircraft The retirement of the Scandinavian nation’s fleet of elderly American fighters has been moved up by two years.
Acting Defense Minister Troels Lund Poulsen said that the replacement fighters, the F-35, will be in service by 2025. Initially, the adapter was planned for the 2027 year.
Lund Paulsen said so NATO member Denmark “has taken the step to start training and additional education efforts for Ukrainian pilots.”

Lund Poulsen told Danish broadcaster DR that Ukrainian pilots would have to spend six to eight months of training before the potential donation of a Danish F-16 becomes a reality.
“It does not mean that you cannot make a decision in advance. But (the F-16s) will be in Denmark until 2024.
Denmark has ordered 27 F-35A fighter jets, which will replace the more than 40-year-old F-16s, of which Denmark has 30 operational aircraft.
Conversion to F-35A Joint Strike Fighter aircraft from late 2023 to late 2025.
Ukraine has long requested Western fighter jets to help it resist Russia’s all-out invasion, which began in February 2022.
The United States and other NATO countries, initially reluctant, have agreed to allow Ukrainian pilots to receive training in the F-16 fighters, although none have yet committed to handing over any aircraft. (AP)
