Govt’s mega health camp for warkaris at Pandharpur from today

Officials said the state government will organize a massive health camp from June 27 to 29 to provide free medical services to up to 10,000 warkaris in the temple town of Bandarpur in Solapur for the Ashadi Ekadashi this week.

Prime Minister Eknath Shinde and Health Minister Tanji Sawant earlier visited the camp site on the outskirts of Pandharpur. The camp will provide specialized services in gynecology, orthopedics, gastroenterology, ophthalmology, etc. For example, free glasses will be provided to those who are found to need them, according to state health officials.

A large medical team of more than 4,000-5,000 specialists, paramedics, assistants and others were involved in providing medical care in the camp where the war room was operating and being monitored by senior officials of the Ministry of Health and contract officers from various regions.

Earlier, the Chief Minister had announced insurance coverage for the rakari during the procession. Shadi Ekadashi will be celebrated on June 29 and this year also the Chief Minister will pray at the temple.

Officials said that from June 6 till date, more than 2.8 lakh workares have been treated for various ailments such as fatigue and medicines have been distributed.

To avoid any major health crisis, medical teams have been stationed at every two kilometers of the procession route, said Dr Radhakrishna Pawar, Deputy Director (Health) Pune constituency (Pune, Satara and Solapur). Apart from 108 ambulance services, there were two wheeler services for urgent medical assistance and alerting the authorities about the difficulties some warkars were facing.
