This past weekend, New York Yankees fans received news that their team captain, Aaron Judge, had torn a ligament in his toe and would be out for several weeks.

With the team already struggling for wins along with the ease with which they made it in 2022, many fans thought the news fatal to the team’s hopes. Judge was injured after being hit by a volleyball in Los Angeles on June 3. Originally thought to have a broken toe, the 6-foot-7 came out weeks later to let fans know the situation was worse than originally thought.

After the judge was assigned to IL, the team went on an unfortunate spell. The team went 6-10 with six of ten losses coming against the Boston Red Sox. Furthermore, the team’s batting average is just . 196 over the past 15 days, which is the lowest in the AL.

On June 25, the Yankees hosted the Texas Rangers. Texas has the second best record in the AL. Prior to the encounter, many Yankees fans thought their team would falter.

“Win Chain” – New York Yankees

After trailing for most of the game as a result of three earned runs on four runs by Gerrit Cole, RBIs from Harrison Bader and Giancarlo Stanton in the eighth inning secured the victory, 5–3.

@tweet Gotta hand it to them. Amid speculation that we’ll be left without the judge for the rest of the season, these kids pull off a gutsy series win. I did well!

@employee Hats off to the stadium staff, what a performance this weekend and the offense that finally came. Hopefully Spark will turn the corner #RepBX

@employee Yesterday’s Rangers 1-0 squeal was fine. Today was decisive. Nice winning streak. It almost erases that embarrassing game 1.

The win marked the Bronx Fighters’ second straight win after four losses and one tie. While there was still significant work to be done, many Yankees fans took comfort in the series’ victory over Texas.

@tweet Look at that… miracles still happen. 🙄

@employee Wow, the Yankees have scored five runs in the game. Bonus, they’ve won twice in a row. Miracle in New York.

Without Aaron Judge in the lineup, the Yankees have scored nearly half as many runs. This has led many to suggest that a team may be overly dependent on their leader. However, Giancarlo Stanton’s RBI single was a huge win for the player, who hit just . 191 in the month of June.

@tweet Huge series win. We make men move forward!

The New York Yankees still face an uphill battle despite the personal win

With a record of 43-35, the New York Yankees are still staring at 9.5 games between them and the Tampa Bay Rays, who lead the AL East. While the team is still very much in the AL Wild Card scene, playing without Judge still feels unnatural for the team.

It is not certain when or if Judge will be able to return this season. If he doesn’t, then at least the team will be playing to prove to themselves that they can survive without him.
