The Asia Kabaddi Championship 2023 will kick off today (June 27) in Korea. This will be the 11th edition of the mega event featuring the best kabaddi bands in Asia. The last time this event happened was in 2017.
The Iranian region of Gorgan hosted the tournament from November 22 to 26, 2017. 10 countries participated in the men’s and women’s kabaddi championships. India won gold in both events. The Iranian team won bronze in both events, while Pakistan finished runners-up in the men’s kabdi, and South Korea was the loser in the women’s kabdi final.
Ajay Thakur captained India in that tournament, and superstar Deepak Niwas Hooda also featured in the team. However, the tournament was not televised, which is why the majority of Kabaddi fans could not watch the matches live.
India secured a place in Group A of the first round. They scored victories over Iraq, Pakistan, Japan and Afghanistan to qualify for the semi-finals. In the semi-finals, they defeated Korea 45-29. And while fans expected a final between India and Iran, Pakistan beat Iran in the other semi-final to set up a showdown against their two neighbors in the final.
done and dusty. Team India won by a big margin against Iraq in their first match of the 2017 Asia Kabaddi Championship.
Ajay Thakur, Pardeep Narwal and Maninder Singh formed the Indian raiding unit in that tournament. Rahul Chaudhary and Rohit Kumar were also present in the squad but were on the bench for the last three matches.
India were in excellent form during their group stage matches at the 2017 Asia Kabaddi Championship, as they beat Iraq 61-21, followed by a whopping 103-25 win over Afghanistan before an 82-16 win over Japan. The final group stage against Pakistan was also lopsided, with India winning 44-18.
Blue is definitely the referee as India beat Pakistan to win the 2017 Asian Kabaddi Championship! 💪👏🔥 https://t.co/4dTrEF8FcF
The final was also a one-sided encounter as India beat Pakistan 36-22 to become champions. Indian fans are expecting a similar performance from Sunil Kumar & Co. in this year’s Asia Kabaddi Championship.
