Martin Truex Jr. had a solid outing at Nashville Superspeedway on Sunday, leading 50 of 300 laps, but losing the race to Russ Chastain by 0.789 seconds.
Martin Truex Jr., Joe Gibbs Racing teammate Denny Hamlin and eventual race winner Ross Chastain dominated the front field on Sunday, racing back and forth and gaining position on pit road. Talking about what went wrong in the closing laps at Nashville Superspeedway, during a post-race interview, Truex Jr. mentioned that he’s not a fan. He just needs to take back the lead from Chastain to win the race. He also admitted that choosing the bottom track on the restart was a bad decision.
Truex Jr. said:
“I just needed to get the lead (again). Once we lost it I probably made a bad move taking the bottom (the lane) on the restart. Just so loose on the long run. I could hang out with whoever was leading. Just never could Corner exit good enough to get going. Just lacking lateral bite. Overall, I burned the rear tires a lot.”
Despite not getting the win, the driver of the #19 JGR Toyota is happy with his effort. he added:
“Just need a little. I got a lot of speed. It just can never get the balance where it needs to be. If we can keep doing that, we’ll be fine.”

Truex Jr. said: , expressing his disappointment at not winning in Stage 2:
“I was disappointed not to take the stage win there. We lapped it until the tire came out on (Riddick’s car). That’s how these things play out. We weren’t good enough to take the lead. That was our problem, burning tires a lot, And severe outages over long distances.”
Martin Truex Jr. is currently at the top of the points table with 576 points. He has three wins this season, including the Busch Light Clash exhibition event.
