Prajanchai PK Saenchai knows that a second win against the legendary Sam-A Gaiyanghadao was a huge feather in his cap, but it was the way he pulled off the win that made him all the more special.
The two old foes met in a rematch last week at ONE Friday Fights 22, with Prajanchai picking up one of the most important wins of his career and the Muay Thai world title at strawweight.
While their first fight lasted all five rounds, a rematch at the famous Lumpinee Boxing arena saw the legendary warrior Prajanchai in the second round.
In his post-fight interview, Praganchai said his second victory over Sam-A could be his biggest win of his stellar career.
“Yes, I would say it is the biggest fight of my life because I have never knocked anyone out with my punches before. Therefore, this fight was very important to me.”
Prajanchai and Sam-A had already met once under the ONE Championship banner at ONE: Battleground, where fighter PK Saenchai snatched the Muay Thai world heavyweight title from the Thai legend via unanimous decision.
Although Praganchai lost the belt to Joseph Lasiri, his unanimous decision win over Kompetch Fairtex at ONE Friday Fights 1 led him to a rematch against Sam-A for the interim world title.
Both fighters looked to measure each other in the opening round of their rematch, but Praganchai upped the ante in the second. After throwing a right hook to the body, Praganchai blasted Sam-A with a left cross to score the first knockdown of the second round.
Sensing that the fight and the temporary gold were within reach, Prajanchai went on a spree and landed a storm of punches that eventually hit Sam-A with the winning knockout.
The win put Prajanchai in a potential rematch against Lasiri for the undisputed Muay Thai world title.
