Former BJP deputy chief in Shivpuri district Rakesh Kumar Gupta, a ‘loyalist’ to Union Minister Jyotiraditya Scindia, celebrated his return to Congress on Monday with a massive motor-show rally of more than 2,000 supporters.
Gupta joined the party in the presence of Kamal Nath, chairman of the Madhya Pradesh Congress Committee, and other senior leaders. He had left Congress in 2020, along with Scindia, during the rebellion that brought down Kamal Nath’s government.
Gupta, with his arms folded, apologized to congressional workers on Monday. “I am coming home. The Congress Party gave me my name, respect and leadership. I have worked for 40 years in the Congress Party. I have served the people. My father was a Congressman from the time of the independence struggle until his death. I want to apologize to the Congress family because I have done something wrong, there is a disgrace In my character. I come here with folded hands, please forgive me,” Gupta told the crowd gathered at the conference premises in Bhopal.
“My soul was in the Congress, my body was in the BJP… What the BJP says and what it does, there is a big difference. What the Congress party says it does. Kamal Nath’s government has done a lot of work in a short period of time. Loans cannot be waived.” Farmers only because of the overthrow of the government. Another BJP leader Baijnath Singh Yadav also severed ties with Scindia More than not getting a seat in the election, he joined Congress in June in a 700-car rally. Yadvendra Singh Yadav joined Congress from the BJP in March, taking shots at Scindia.
