The New York Mets’ Buck Showalter was slammed for bizarre decisions in a 2-1 loss to the Milwaukee Brewers on Monday. The Mets have a record of 35-43, dropping eight games below . 500 PCT.

Showalter was already under pressure because of a false call that cost the Mets their game against the Philadelphia Phillies on Sunday. The Mets manager chose not to bring in relief pitcher David Robertson even though he was available. Jeff Bringham, Josh Walker and Vinny Netul gave home four earned runs in the eighth to hit the save and lose 7-6.

In the game against the Brewers, Showalter brought in Robertson when they were losing in the ninth. Milwaukee took the lead thanks to a sixth inning by Joey Wimmer. Justin Verlander who started for the Mets scored five scoreless innings, but New York’s poor offense cost them the game.

Francisco Lindor was the only one to score a sacrifice bunt, driving in Starling Marty. Brewers quarterback Colin Rea went for 6.1 innings, his longest on the mound this season, while Devon Williams pulled off a save for his team.

Mets fans slammed Showalter for his poor selections when they took to Twitter to voice their displeasure. One:

“I’m watching the press conference after Buck Showalter’s game and I need this guy fired immediately.”

Here are some of the top reactions on Twitter:

@tweet Buck Showalter is the worst manager I have ever seen.

I’m watching the press conference after Buck Showalter’s game and I need this guy fired immediately

@tweet They will all be “unavailable” when they get up by 1 tomorrow

@tweet He’s been saying it for months… he dares them to kick him out

@tweet What a concept! You try to win a game with your closest in case you can’t save. Is there a DeLorean useful for taking us back to yesteryear?#dollar

@tweet I burst out laughing. We use our B guys who won a game yesterday but we only use our key players when we lose. Make sense

@tweet Perhaps he thought the Mets had a chance to score two runs in the bottom of the ninth. Ha ha ha

@tweet Needed to be rescued tonight. Obvi…

Hey Mets When does the loss end? Please do us a favor to our loyal fans and already shooting Buck Showalter. He is not the right person to lead the team. The decisions he made were especially bad yesterday and his excuses for his bachelor’s degree. There should be a new sound #LGM 1/2

I’m going to sleep I believe in looks So here I am.. I’d like to wake up to: • Declan Rice’s third offer accepted • Buck Showalter fired

@tweet The bulls unfortunately failed to save Verlander yet again which I don’t get what Buck Showalter is thinking of calling Drew Smith a total rubbish this season which definitely cost Buck Showalter his job

Buck Showalter’s press conferences further angered fans

Taking losses and taking responsibility is one thing, but Buck Showalter can’t seem to show any of it. When asked about possible solutions to the Mets’ damaging 6-15 run since the start of the month, he said:

“Win,” said the manager. “It’s not complicated.”

This will likely anger fans who were expecting the MLB record-breaking $355 million to do better than being 16.5 games behind the leaders Atlanta Braves.

The Metsies are 8.5 games behind third in the National League Wild Cards, in stark contrast to their 101-game winning season in 2022.
