The President awarded 52 ATi Vishisht Seva Medals (AVSMs), one to AVSM, three UYSMs and 28 Param Vishisht Seva Medals (PVSMs) to staff for distinguished service of Exceptional Order.
President Droupadi Murmu on Tuesday bestowed distinguished service awards, including 52 Ati Vishisht Seva Medals, on 84 active and retired personnel of the Indian Armed Forces and Coast Guard.
The awards were presented during the Defense Honors Ceremony held at the Rashtrapati Bhavan.
Lieutenant General ADS Aujla, former commander of the Srinagar-based Chinar Corps responsible for guarding the Line of Control (LoC) in the Kashmir Valley, has been awarded the Uttam Yudh Siva Medal (UYSM), according to the official list of award recipients.
“President Draupadi Mormo, Commander-in-Chief of the Armed Forces, awarded Distinguished Service Awards to 84 active and retired personnel of the Indian Armed Forces and Coast Guard during the Defense Honors Ceremony (Phase II) in New Delhi,” the MoD said in a statement.
The President has conferred 52 ATi Vishisht Seva Medals (AVSMs), one Guild to AVSM, three UYSMs and 28 Param Vishisht Seva Medals (PVSMs) to staff for distinguished service in exceptional order.
Prime Minister Narendra Modi and other dignitaries attended the ceremony.
“Attending the Defense Honors Ceremony at Rashtrapati Bhavan where the Distinguished Service Awards were presented. We are proud of everyone who received these awards,” he tweeted and shared photos.
Rashtrapati Bhavan also tweeted pictures from the ceremony.
“President Draupadi Mormo presented Sam Bar to Ati Vishtisht Seva to Major General K Narayanan, Infantry (retired),” he wrote on Twitter.
Among the beneficiaries of the AVMs are Maj. Gen. Alok Kakar of the Army Infantry, and Maj. Gen. Sanjay Kumar Vidyarthi of the Corps of Engineers; Vice Admiral Deepak Kapoor and Vice Admiral Adhir Arora of the Navy; and Marshal Ashutosh Dixit of the Israeli Air Force, according to the list of winners shared by the ministry.
Lt. Gen. Ujla of Rajputana Rifles, HQ, 15 Corps, was among the three recipients of the UYSMs, along with Lt. Gen. Ram Chander Tiwari of Kumaon Regiment, 3 Corps, and Lt. Gen. Anindia Sengupta of Punjab Regiment, HQ, 14 Corps.
On May 9, Chief Mormo conferred eight kirti chakras, including five posthumously, on members of the army, paramilitaries and police for displaying indomitable courage and extraordinary valor in the line of duty.
The Kirti Chakra is the second highest award for peacetime bravery in India.
The Defense Ministry said in a statement that President Mormo also presented 29 Shaurya Chakras, including five posthumously, to personnel of the Armed Forces, Central Armed Police Force and State/Union Territory Police during a defense inauguration ceremony held at the Rashtrapati Bhavan. .
The Shaurya Chakra is the third highest award for peacetime bravery in India after the Ashok Chakra and the Kirti Chakra.
