A 16-year-old school student died from electrocution after he touched a wire fence in Shivan district of Pune on Tuesday morning. This is the Second such incident in Pune last week.
A police officer identified the dead man as Shubham Balu Pawar, a resident of Shindi Paul, and a class 10 student of Navbharat High School in Shivani. At around 11 am on Tuesday, Shubham was on his way to meet a friend from school when the accident happened.
“Initial investigation indicates that he touched the wire fence of a residential building in a small alley in Deshmukhwadi district and was given an electric shock. Some residents took him to the hospital where he was pronounced dead,” an officer from Uttam Nagar Police Station said. The police registered a case of accidental death.
Assistant Inspector Shubhangi Pawar of Uttam Nagar Police Station who is investigating the case said, “Initial investigations indicate death due to electric shock. We have endeavored to obtain a report from the electrical inspectors on the basis of which further course of action will be determined.”
On June 24, a 30-year-old man working as a painter died of electrocution after he connected to the wire fence of a condominium association in Kondhwa in Poona where he had stopped to take shelter during a downpour.
The electrical examination falls under the jurisdiction of the Office of the Chief Electrical Inspector of the Ministry of Industry, Energy and Labor, Government of Maharashtra. It is a separate entity from Maharashtra State Electricity Distribution Corporation Limited (MSEDCL).
