Congress dares Kerala CM to probe charges by ex-party man against ‘minister’

The Kerala Congress on Tuesday trained its guns on Chief Minister Pinarayi Vijayan, daring him to drop the homeland portfolio and ordering an investigation into the allegations of a senior journalist who claimed in a social media post that he had seen the CPI (CPI). The leader, a minister in the current government, collects large sums of money “gifted with several big shots”.

The development comes days after the state police arrested the state’s Congress chief K. Sudhakaran in the case of alleged complicity in the fraud scandal involving fraudster Monsoon Mavunkal, after which the state’s vigilance office launched an investigation into a separate complaint that the congressman allegedly amassed wealth beyond that . known sources of income.

While G. Sakthidran, a former senior journalist in Deshabhmani, the spokesperson of the Communist Party of China (CPC) in the state, did not mention the leader of the Marxist party, the Congress placed Vijayan at the center of the prosecution.

CPI(M) did not immediately respond to the allegations. Senior Congress legislator and opposition leader of the Kerala Assembly, VD Satheesan, said on Tuesday, “The disclosure must be investigated. It is against Vijayan.”

Sakthedran has worked as a senior journalist with Deshabhimani for years. He was known to be loyal to party veteran VS Achuthanandan during the days of animosity within the party, as he viewed Vijayan on the other side.
