Pacer Murasinghe’s five-point haul fueled Eastern Province’s run to drive against Central Province on day one of the Duleep Cup quarter-finals here at the Alor Grounds on Wednesday.

Tripura quickly took 5 for 42 as East amassed midfield for 182. In the end, East were 32 for 2 and 150 behind.

Under cloudy skies, Murasinghe troubled the central batsmen with his accuracy and movement. Rinku Singh was the biggest draw in the batting central unit, but the left-hander fell to left-hander Shahbaz Nadeem on 38 to prove his fall.

The Renko 38 was Central’s highest single score that day underlining their battering troubles.

The only moment of solidity came when Rinku and wicketkeeper Upendra Yadav added 61 runs for the fourth wicket to lift Central from 86 for 4 to 147.

However, Murasingh broke off this alliance to deliver a body blow to the central roles.

Eastern Province got off to the worst possible start, losing captain Abhimanyu Eeshwaran to nil off the first ball he faced. He was cornered in front of the wicket by Bisar Avish Khan.

Avish added another wicket to his cat when he won a leg before appeal against Shantanu Mishra as the batsman at six, and the dismissal gave Central some solace after a difficult day with the bat.
