British Prime Minister Rishi Sunak on Wednesday reiterated his commitment to a truly ambitious free trade agreement with India as he hosted a special reception to celebrate the UK-India Week 2023 of the Global India Forum at 10 Downing Street Park here.
The 43-year-old Indian-British leader interacted with business leaders and celebrities, including boxing champion Mary Kom, musicians Shankar Mahadevan and Zakir Hussain, and Bollywood actor Sonam Kapoor, as part of what has been called the start of an Indian summer in the UK.
Prime Minister (Narendra) Modigi and I both agree that there is huge potential here. We are making great progress together on the 2030 roadmap and want to strike a truly ambitious trade deal that will benefit both our countries, and offer huge opportunities for businesses and consumers, both in India and here at home,” Sunak said.
Sunak was joined at the garden party by his wife, Akshata Murti, and mother-in-law, Sudha Murti. “It’s not just UK and India week, but an entire Indian summer,” he said.
The fifth week of the India Global Forum (IGF) between the UK and India, which runs until Friday, brings together ministers, business leaders and policymakers to deliberate on key sectors of focus in the bilateral relationship.
“We are all here, from diverse backgrounds, experiences and journeys, but what unites us is our passion and our contribution to furthering what I describe as a winning partnership between the UK and India,” said Manoj Ladua, Founder of IGF.
