As the controversy over the PGA Tour-PIF deal continues, Tony Finau has offered his thoughts on the same.
The golfer, who arrived in Detroit for the 2023 Rocket Mortgage Classic this week, said officials still “have not provided a lot of new information” about the alliance. He was speaking at a news conference when he made the comment.
Opening up about the proposed PGA Tour-PIF deal, Finau said he attended the players’ meeting last week. However, the meeting wasn’t of much use and the players still didn’t know anything about the evolution. He said the players would continue to move forward with the tour decision and “see where it takes them”.
Speaking to the media in Detroit ahead of the launch of the Rocket Mortgage Classic 2023, Tony Finau said:
“As a member of the tour as a whole, we had a meeting last week. It’s no secret that we had a meeting at Travelers. Any questions we had there were answered, but not a lot of new information was given to us as a whole. So, we’ll continue down that path with the tour. And see where it takes us.”
PGA Tour players don’t know anything about the PGA Tour-PIF agreement
With the comments, Tony Finau joins a string of PGA Tour golfers who have complained that they don’t understand the deal.
A week ago, Masters champion John Rahm came out to slam those responsible for the same thing. Ram, like Fino, said the players “knew nothing” about the details of the controversial merger agreement, and they were kept secret.
Speaking before the PGA Tour players’ meeting last week, he said, as reported by ESPN:
“I understand why they had to keep it so secret. I didn’t talk much about (the merger) last week, and I think I might know more in a few hours once we’re done with the player tonight. I don’t think we’ll get a lot of answers, but I’ll at least have a An idea of where the chief of membership is, that’s all I can say.
“We don’t know anything. I don’t know if the officials know much more than we do.”
It is worth noting that Finau’s comment came just hours after the PGA-PIF Alliance’s “Framework Agreement” was leaked online. Although the document was leaked, players and fans are still questioning the officials to explain the ongoing merger process and its future move.
