The Philadelphia 76ers appear poised to make a move on Tobias Harris as trade rumors surrounding him have been swirling since the start of the season. The organization is looking for a fresh start after being eliminated in the second round of the playoffs for the third year in a row (and five out of six).

Harris has been with the Sixers since the 2018-19 season after he was traded by the LA Clippers. Since he’s been with the team, he’s been one of the more consistent players, but the team looks set to move on from him this summer.

Recently, Tobias has addressed the business rumors swirling around him.

“Business speculation, regular Sixers fans, would trade me for a Cookie Crumbl,” Harris said.

“But at the end of the day, they have to realize that you don’t get a 6-9 forward who can go close to 40% from 3, guard the MVPs on other teams, shoot, shoot, drive, and play 70+ games in a year.”

Earlier this week, rumors surfaced about Harris as the Sixers were willing to transfer him this summer. It was reported that Tobias was a target by the Phoenix Suns and that the Sixers would go through a three-team deal. Later, it was confirmed that the Suns are keeping DeAndre Ayton, canceling trade discussions about the 6-foot-9 forward.

Harris finished the 2022-23 season on a disappointing note. His numbers were down compared to the previous season but he was still available for the team and only lost eight matches. He averaged 14.7 points, 5.7 rebounds and 2.5 assists last season.

With his decline, it’s clear why the team is so willing to move on from him. Philly has had a lot of disappointments, and they need a fresh start from the player. In addition, he can get a chance to refresh with a different team.

Returning to The Sixers is still an option for Tobias Harris

Tobias Harris is in the final year of his deal and has not received any offer of an extension. It’s also one of the reasons he moved this summer to a different team. Harris was asked about his possible future with the Sixers and the forward expressed his willingness to restart it with the same group.

“I think we have the right talent to be a championship team and we have the right pieces and the right culture,” said Harris. “With a new coach, I’m excited about what we can bring to the table.

“The teams that stay together and build their culture and build their inclusivity, those are the ones that prevail. I’m excited to go back and put this group back together, add a few pieces that help us as a whole team and get ready to win.”

Tobias Harris may not be offered a contract extension as the Sixers prioritize Tyrese Maxey and James Harden over it.
