This is the third incident of a dog attacking a child in Bengaluru this month.
A nine-year-old boy was attacked by a pet dog in Kadogudi. In the same month, an 11-year-old boy was attacked by a pet dog in the city’s Jayanagar.
This comes after an eight-year-old was bitten by a couple’s pet dog in Koramangala, Bengaluru, last year. The child’s parents filed a complaint against the pet’s owners over the incident.
Dogs attacking people in residential buildings and parks are increasing. While animal welfare organizations have questioned the authenticity of some dog attack incidents, people have been complaining on social media about the increased danger.
A LocalCircles poll showed that 82% of respondents agree that dog or pet attacks are common in their area, city, or neighborhood. Approximately 51% indicated the prevalence of stray dog attacks. 3% said attacks by pet dogs are common; 28% stated that attacks by both stray dogs and pet dogs were more frequent while only 17% said they did not exist or were rare.
Compared to last year’s survey, there was a 31% increase in complaints of dog attacks, bringing the number to 82%.
