The Cleveland Browns are in for a pivotal season with Deshaun Watson. Entering his second year in uniform, the pressure was on the team to prove that their decision to trade him wasn’t a bad one. To do that, they might have to make a big swing of DeAndre Hopkins.

ProFootballTalk’s Mike Florio said that everyone outside of Watson should feel pressure to be good. They need to justify this move, which was controversial and required a a lot of assets:
“It’s crucial that the Browns get more from Deshawn Watson. You’re in year two of a fully guaranteed five-year contract. There’s not as much pressure on Watson as there is on the people around him. The coaching staff is under a lot of pressure this year. If they don’t get The most out of Watson this year, there might be a change next year simply because ownership will become more pressing to justify, not just the money, but all the draft picks they gave up.”
Florio went on to say that the Browns needed to listen to Watson if they were to help him succeed. If they aren’t interested in doing that, this could be a problem:
“If Watson wants Hopkins and the team says no, that matters to me. If he really thinks they can use Hopkins. And if the Browns don’t want him, that’s the kind of thing that could be a potential problem.”
Watson and Hopkins were teammates for the Houston Texans.
Coincidentally, Deshaun Watson’s best year in the NFL was the first year he didn’t play for DeAndre Hopkins. The star wide receiver has been with the Houston Texans since he was drafted and Watson was the starting quarterback until 2020.
This was the year he was traded to the Arizona Cardinals and it was Watson’s best season to date. He was on rare form, throwing for over 4,800 yards and 33 touchdowns to just seven interceptions.
He proved to be a special talent in the NFL that season until things got worse. After that, he sat down to try and leave Texas and allegations of sexual assault began to surface. Then, he was traded to the Browns and played poorly after being suspended for 11 matches.
