With traffic congesting in Mumbai and the monsoons easing, the Mumbai Metropolitan Region Development Authority (MMRDA) has removed barriers from the metro projects underway across the Mumbai Metropolitan Region (MMR), wherever possible.

This is expected to provide convenience to the passengers by ensuring smoother traffic flow. As many as 33,922 barriers have been removed, clearing 84,806 kilometers of roads and opening up more space for vehicular traffic.

MMRDA is executing a 337km metro network, having installed 152.86km of barriers across several metro lines, including Metro 2B (DN Nagar to Mandale), Metro 4 (Wadala (Mumbai) to Kasarvadavali), Metro 4A (Kasarvadavali – Gaimukh), metro 5 (Thane-Bhiwandi-Kalyan), metro 6 (Swami Samarth Nagar-Jogeshwari-Vikhroli-Kanjurmarg), metro 7A (Andheri East – CSIA Terminal 2) and metro 9 (Dahisar East – Mira Bhayandar) respectively.

Barriers have been removed from key locations including Eastern Express Highway (EEH), Western Express Highway (WEH), Bandra Kurla Complex (BKC), SV Road, VN Purv Marg (Chembur Naka), New Link Road, Gulmohar Road, MG Road, Gudbandar Road, Kapur Bawadi, Balqam, Dahisar, Mira Road, Bhandar, Thane, Tin Haat Naka, JVLR, Infinity Mall, Powai, Kanjoor Marg, and Mankhord along the under construction metro lines.

In addition, MMRDA has set up a 24×7 emergency control room for quick resolution of citizens’ complaints during monsoons.

Dr. Sanjay Mukherjee, MMRDA City Commissioner said, “We are committed to minimizing nuisance during the monsoon season and have implemented measures to address road issues and ensure smooth flow of traffic.”
