Gary Lineker gave a hilarious response on Twitter when a Just Stop Oil protester invaded the pitch during the first Ashes Test.

Stuart Broad was about to throw the second to Usman Khawaja before two marauders carrying a dusting of orange paint took to the field. The pair were part of the Just Stop Oil activist group that has caused controversy in the UK.

However, England wicket-keeper Jonny Bairstow reacted quickly and carried a protester off the field much to the delight of spectators at Lord’s. The drama didn’t stop there as another protester was turned away by Ben Stokes and Australian batsman David Warner.

The incident sparked Gary Lineker who used his usual wit when responding on Twitter. He said:

“Can he grind please?”

It’s like when another Just Stop Oil protester walked into Goodison Park during Everton’s match with Newcastle United in March. The man handcuffs himself to a goal post and the game is then delayed.

Gary Lineker is a supporter of the activist group and has defended it in the past. The Tottenham Hotspur legend told Channel 4:

“I think it’s very disturbing to lock up people who are actually trying to make sure we have some kind of future. I get why people can get upset because it’s such a disruptive show. But history kind of tells you the only demonstrations that really work are disturbing things.”

The group of activists also caused traffic delays by forming a line on the highways. They also sprayed buildings to deliver their message about the environment.

Many fans criticized the group for delaying sporting events and the matter became a huge discussion in the UK. It remains to be seen if they will look to target any other upcoming events such as Wimbledon which is currently taking place.
