He particularly highlighted the border situation as a critical factor affecting the overall dynamic. Jaishankar referred to China as India’s “important neighbor” and stressed the importance of mutual respect and adherence to agreements in order to maintain a healthy and constructive relationship.
He further stated that although China figures prominently on the world stage as a large economy and an important power, any successful relationship must be built on a strong foundation of mutual cooperation.
“There must be respect for each other’s interests, sensitivity towards each other’s interests, and there must be commitment to the agreements reached between us. It is that departure from what was agreed upon between us, which today lies at the heart of the difficult stage we are going through with China. In sum, at the end of the day, the state of the border will determine the state of the relationship. Jaishankar was quoted by the Nouakchott News Agency as saying that the state of the border today is still not normal.”
Highlighting the stark contrast between India’s relations with China and the US, External Affairs Minister S. Jaishankar expressed that relations with the latter have been remarkably positive.
He stressed the exceptional nature of relations with the US, citing Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s successful state visit as evidence of this. Jaishankar went on to describe the visit as the most productive and productive ever by an Indian Prime Minister.
“Today, a very polarized world, and the global stage is much more difficult… Our relations with the United States are exceptionally good. We had the most fruitful visit in history,” he was quoted by the Nouakchott Press Agency.
“We have moved into positive territory with the United States to shape the world for common purposes. The attention being given to Europe is remarkable… The big issue before us is the conclusion of a free trade agreement… We are more optimistic than ever,” the Minister of Foreign Affairs added.
