Red Bull team principal Christian Horner questioned Mercedes team principal Toto Wolff’s ability to handle the pressure as he spoke about the 2021 incident when the latter was seen smashing his headphones on the table during an intense moment. Horner added that he would never smash a pair of headphones while angry.

The 2021 season featured one of the biggest rivalries not only between two teams and drivers but also between team managers; Horner Wolf. There were many moments of intense heat between the two during the races as Max Verstappen and Lewis Hamilton battled it out for the World Championship.

One of these moments was not easy for Toto Wolff during the Grand Prix in Saudi Arabia, when Red Bull and Mercedes made contact on track, damaging the front wing of the latter. Wolfe, in a fit of rage, smashed his headphones on the table, which got very creative.

However, the Red Bull boss doesn’t find it very professional, pointing out that no matter how much pressure he’s under, he’ll never break a pair of headphones. Planet F1 quote him,

“Any sport is a mind game but when you see some part of the camp lose it and smash a set of headphones, you think ‘well, you’re feeling the pressure. ‘ And if he’s feeling the pressure, then everyone around him is feeling the pressure, because the pressure is coming from above.”

“I would never break a set of headphones.”

Unlike the Red Bull boss, Toto Wolff makes no apologies for smashing his headphones

Coincidentally, in a recently released video by Sky Sports On Twitter, the Mercedes boss can be seen talking about the emotions and anger in the world of Formula 1. Referring specifically to the “headphone smashing” incident, he stated that he is very emotional and tries to stay true to his feelings in times like these.

“I’m just trying to be honest. I’m very emotional, and I’m throwing my heart on my sleeve. I take it badly when somebody’s trying to hurt the team,” Wolff said.

Although he stated that he had his heart on his sleeves the whole time, he added that he wasn’t exactly proud of the incident during the 2021 Saudi Arabian Grand Prix. He also revealed that his emotional approach got him into trouble early in his life as well:

“Sometimes my headphones break and when I see that, I don’t feel proud. My feelings put me off as a teenager too, but it’s just who I am.”
