Two cousins ​​were out for a walk in the historic Qudsia Bagh in North Delhi when a group of three men and a young man approached them. They told the duo that they were social media influencers and asked them to pose with the group for an Instagram reel. The cousins, both teenagers, obliged and began filming the reels. After some time, the group asked their cousins ​​to move to a corner “to get a better background and view”. Once the cousins ​​obliged them again, one member of the group pulled out a knife, stabbed one of the teens, and escaped with the other’s mobile phone before fleeing the scene.

The accident occurred on June 19. Police arrested a 19-year-old and a juvenile in connection with Tuesday’s case.

Police said they received a PCR call regarding a stabbing incident from local residents. The complainant, 16-year-old Raheel, was stabbed in the stomach. He said he was walking in the park with his cousin Laarab, 15, when four unknown men approached them.

A senior police officer said, “The defendants presented themselves as social media influencers. Then they lured the boys to make a reel with them under the pretext of gaining more followers. He managed to fend them off.”

The cousins ​​were taken to the hospital and their statements were recorded. Police said they were soon released from the hospital and are now in a stable condition.

During the investigation, it was found that there were no surveillance cameras at the site and the accused could not be identified with the help of local residents or informants.

A team led by Station Officer (SHO), Civil Lines, Rajeev Kumar analyzed more than 100 surveillance cameras near Qudsiya Bagh and other markets. Based on the CCTV maps, it was suspected that the accused came from the Trans-Yamuna region.

Sagar Singh Kalsi, Deputy Commissioner of Police (DCP) North said, “The team scanned more than 200 surveillance cameras all over Delhi. Then the accused were identified. Several raids were carried out and we found their addresses. A juvenile of about 15 years old was arrested years.”

Police said the boy revealed that his buddies hatched the whole plan to “successfully rob the victims”.

Their plan was to first approach victims posing as influencers and convince them to take part in making the reels. They also planned to make a separate reel of the incident to gain notoriety in the underworld. They wanted to show off their power…and decided to implement the plan in the Garden of Jerusalem,” Kalsi added.

Upon interrogation of the juvenile, one of the accused, Mona, was tracked down and arrested.

Two of his accomplices are still on the run. Police said they have been identified and will be arrested soon.
