The joint statement expressed deep concern about Myanmar and called for the release of all political prisoners, the establishment of constructive dialogue and the transition to a comprehensive federal democratic system.

The junta’s foreign ministry said in a statement that Myanmar “seeks understanding, support and constructive cooperation from the international community for the government’s efforts to build a union based on democracy and federalism as well as condemnation of terrorism in all its forms to ensure peace, stability and development in Myanmar.”
The regime imposed death sentences on more than 150 people. “However, the statement said it had pardoned 62,818 inmates and commuted 59 death sentences to life imprisonment,” the report said.
Despite the joint statement, New Delhi has yet to formally condemn Myanmar’s military generals since their February 2021 coup that toppled a democratically elected government led by Nobel laureate Aung San Suu Kyi, the National League for Democracy.
India is also one of the few countries that maintains relations with the junta regime. New Delhi offered to help in an election proposed by the military council that Western countries have described as a sham.
