Judge Krishna S Dixit’s Single Judge Panel, which imposed the practical part of the judgment, also imposed a cost of Rs 50,000 on Twitter and ordered it to be paid to the Karnataka State Legal Services Authority within 45 days.
The Karnataka High Court on Friday dismissed a petition filed by Twitter Inc. , to challenge several banning and revocation orders issued by the Ministry of Electronics and Information Technology. The High Commissioner issued the order saying the company’s appeal was “meritless”.
Judge Krishna S Dixit’s Single Judge Panel, which imposed the practical part of the judgment, also imposed a cost of Rs 50,000 on Twitter and ordered it to be paid to the Karnataka State Legal Services Authority within 45 days.
The High Commissioner on reading the operative part said, “In the above circumstances this benefit-free petition is liable to be rejected at typical costs and is therefore. The petitioner shall be charged a typical cost of Rs 50,000 payable to the Karnataka State Legal Services Authority, Bengaluru, within 45 days.
If the delay is made, it attracts an additional tax of Rs 5,000 per day. “I am convinced by the center’s claim that they have powers to block tweets and block accounts,” the judge said while dismissing the Twitter petition.
