The rain alert for Mumbai is yellow for Saturday and green after that, while the IMD predicted heavy rain in isolated parts of Gujarat.

Heavy rains in Delhi led to traffic congestion and waterlogging, leading to the death of an auto-rickshaw driver on Friday while vehicular traffic was affected in Mumbai. Rain-related deaths in Gujarat rose to nine in the last two days, officials said.

Here are some of the most important weather updates:

  • Delhi received 26.9 mm of rain between 8:30 am and 5:30 pm on Friday, according to the Safdarjung Observatory as torrential rain swept through the national capital resulting in flooding in several areas, traffic jams and the death of an auto-rickshaw driver.
  • A 51-year-old auto-rickshaw driver, Ajit Sharma of Nand Nagri, died after falling into a ditch on a water-filled road in Harsh Vihar.

    According to PWD data, its control room received 50 complaints of waterlogging.

  • The firewall of the shed used by the county workers at Thane Municipal Corporation has collapsed due to heavy rain. Officials said no one was hurt in the accident.

    The official noted that Thane city witnessed 71.86 mm of rain between 9:30 am and 8:30 pm. The city has seen 645.84 mm of rain so far this year, up from 323 mm in the same period last year.

  • Moderate to heavy rains fell on Mumbai and its suburbs which were hit by road traffic in some parts due to waterlogging while the operations of local trains remained largely unaffected.
  • “Due to waterlogging, Andheri Subway has been closed, while traffic has been diverted to Vile Parle Bridge and Captain Gore Marg, SV Road,” Mumbai Traffic Police wrote on Twitter.

    Railway authorities said suburban train services for the Central Railway and Western Railway were normal.

    However, passengers on some routes, including the Central Railway Port line which operates services between Panvel and Chhatrapati Shivaji Maharaj Terminus (CSMT), have complained of delays in train operations in the morning hours. Trains were a few minutes behind their usual schedule on the Central Railway’s main line as well.

  • During July, normal temperatures are likely to be above normal maximum in most parts of the country except for some areas in northwest India and peninsular India, the Met Office said.   • In Gujarat, heavy rains caused water inundation in several parts of Ahmedabad while some areas received more than 200 mm in the last 30 hours. Rain-related incidents have claimed nine lives over the past two days in the state, the state government said, including the deaths of four children in Panchmal district and two in Anand in wall collapses on Thursday.
  • The IMD predicted heavy rains in isolated parts of different regions on Saturday and light to moderate rains on Sunday and Monday.

    According to data shared by the state’s Emergency Operations Center (SEOC), 37 talukas from the state received more than 100 mm of rain in the 30 hours ending at 12 noon on Friday. It added that Fiara Taluka from Tapi district received 299 mm of rain in 30 hours ending at 12 noon.

    Chief Minister Bhubindra Patil visited the State Emergency Operations Center (SEOC) late at night to assess the situation and direct the management of the district after heavy rains in Gujarat. He stressed the importance of focusing on rescue and relief operations, including moving people from low-lying areas to safer places. The Chief Minister received detailed information about the impact of heavy rains on people’s lives, particularly in Jamnagar, Junagadh and Kutch.

  • The IMD predicted heavy rains over Uttarakhand on June 30, July 3-4, western Rajasthan on June 30, and eastern UP and eastern Rajasthan on June 30 and July 1.
  • Very likely light to moderate rain with isolated heavy precipitation over Madhya Pradesh during the next couple of days.
  • Heavy to very heavy rains are very likely over Konkan and Goa, as well as Ghat areas in Maharashtra over the next five days, and over Gujarat in the next two days.
  • Heavy to very heavy spells are very likely in the sub-Himalayan region of West Bengal, Sikkim, Bihar, Assam and Meghalaya. Arunachal Pradesh will also see heavy rains for the next five days. Scattered heavy rains are expected over West Bengal’s Gangetic on June 30 and July 3, Jharkhand on July 3, and Odisha on July 3 and 4.
  • Light showers are expected in Kerala and Karnataka over the next five days. Isolated heavy rains are expected over the coastal areas of Karnataka in the next five days. Southern Karnataka and Tamil Nadu may experience rain during July 2-4, and Telangana on July 4. Isolated heavy rains are likely in Karnataka, Kerala and Tamil Nadu on July 3 and 4.
