The Ministry of Railways said that in this time period, the semi-high-speed trains completed 2,140 trips, according to the data as of June 21.
Vande Bharat Express trains recorded 100 percent occupancy between April 2022 and June 2023. In this time period, more than 25.20 passengers traveled on these semi-high-speed trains in a total of 2,140 trips, data up to June 21 shows.
According to the Ministry of Railways, Vande Bharat Express has been a popular choice since the launch of the first train. “A testament to this is the occupancy rate of 100 per cent on the Vande Bharat trains which are currently operating for the period between April 1, 2022 and June 21, 2023,” the ministry said on Thursday.
The ministry also said that in a total of 2,140 trips, at least 2,520,370 passengers boarded the Vande Bharat Express from April 1, 2022 to June 21, 2023. Further, the number of re-allocated berths is 25,23,538 for the same period. Currently, 46 Vande Bharat trains are in service, including five that were inaugurated earlier this week.
The ministry added, “The fleet of Vande Bharat Express, which includes a total of 24 states and the University of Texas, is constantly growing due to its time saving feature, which saves an average of an hour compared to other trains.”
With a maximum permitted speed of 160 km per hour, Vande Bharat trains offer faster acceleration and are the fastest passenger train on the routes. “The 46 services operate on electrified rail networks across destinations and will soon make their mark in the few remaining states/UTs once the rail network is electrified. All states with electrified rail networks have Vande Bharat Express service from June 28,” the ministry said. Indian Railways is moving forward with the mission to achieve 100 per cent electric broadband.
Vandy Metro is next in line
The ministry also said it is trying to develop the Vandy Metro, which will provide a world-class express experience akin to a shuttle service for commuters. These trains will run around big cities that have huge traffic.
She added, “During 2023-24, the design and production of the Vandy Metro will be completed and will be intensified in the next fiscal year 2024-25.”
Last week, News18 reported on the tenders for these Vande Metro trains. Mumbai’s Vikas Railways has invited bids online from international bidders to procure 2,856 buses for the city’s suburban network.
