With Kartik Aaryan and Kiara Advani’s Satyaprem ki katha Hitting screens this week, Prabhas and Kriti Sanon Adeporush More tanks in ticket window. On Friday, the big-budget epic grossed just under ₹ 1 crore across India, closing the curtain on its release. According to film trade tracking website Bollymoviereviewz, on its 15th day in theaters, Om Raut’s film has taken in just under Rs 50 lakh in the Indian belt, taking its domestic collection to Rs 282 crore.
The film was theatrically released on 16 June in Hindi, Telugu, Kannada, Tamil and Malayalam. However, with no chance of recouping its ₹500 crore budget theatrically, Adipurush marks Prabhas’ third consecutive flop. Prabhas last achieved super success with the two films Baahubali, directed by S.S. Rajamouli, but his follow-ups, Saaho and Radhe Shyam, were box office disasters.
While Prabhas’ portrayal of Lord Rama in Adipurush, an adaptation of the Ramayana, received mixed responses, the film also attracted criticism for Hanuman’s visual effects-heavy dialogues. After the first round of criticism, the producers decided to change the objectionable dialogues, and drastically cut ticket prices.
On the first day of release, Adipurush grossed an impressive ₹140 crore worldwide. However, its earnings refused to rise as the week progressed. Apart from Prabhas and Kriti Sanon, Adipurush also stars Saif Ali Khan as Lankesh, Sunny Singh as Lakshman and Devdatta Nage as Lord Hanuman.
Prabhas will next appear in Nag Ashwin’s Project K with Deepika Padukone, Amitabh Bachchan and Kamal Haasan. He will also star in Salaar directed by Prashanth Neel.
