The first batch of pilgrims left for the cave shrine of Amarnath from Jammu on Friday. Lieutenant Governor Manoj Sinha moved the convoy from Bhagwati Nagar Base Camp

The administration of Jammu and Kashmir transferred the first batch of pilgrims from Paltal Base Camp in Ganderpal to the Amarnath Cave shrine on Saturday.

Meanwhile, a second batch of more than 4,400 pilgrims started their pilgrimage to the 3,888-meter-high Amarnath cave shrine from Jammu’s Bhagwati Nagar camp amidst tight security today. The pilgrims left the base camp on Saturday morning in a convoy of 188 vehicles.

Citing officials, prof PTI The report stated that the number of pilgrims who left for the Amarnath cave shrine from Jammu base camp is 7,904.

The 62-day Amarnath Yatra Route from Kashmir will start on July 1 from the twin trails, the 48 km Nunwan-Pahalgam Route in Anantnag District and the shorter but steep Baltal Route in Ganderbal District.

The Yatra takes place in the Shravan month of the Hindu calendar as it is the only time when the caves are accessible to the general public. The yatra will continue until August 31 of this year.

A multi-level security system has been set up in and around the Bhagwati Nagar Base Camp for the annual pilgrimage. As many as 33 accommodation centers have been set up across Jammu and Radio Frequency Identification (RFID) tags have been issued to the pilgrims.

Five counters have been set up to register pilgrims. About 3.5 lakh have signed up online for Yatra this year so far.
