Formula 1 fans were quick to slam Red Bull driver Sergio Perez after a disappointing qualifying performance, which saw him finish P15 at the 2023 Austrian Grand Prix on Friday 30 June.

Since this is Sprint Weekend, the Mexican driver will have another chance to redeem himself in the sprint race later on Saturday. But a series of deletions in the Red Bull circuit would be a sign of his anxiety.

In Q2, Sergio Pérez did not get a clean lap as all 3 laps, which were good for the Top-3, were nullified due to track boundary violations.

Formula 1 fans showed him no mercy on social media, with one fan even likening him to ex-Ferrari driver Rubens Barrichello and his well-documented struggles against Michael Schumacher, saying:

“Barricheco is definitely doing his best to sign for the Chinese F4 Championship before Debris”

@F1 Barricheco is certainly doing everything he can to sign for the Chinese F4 Championship ahead of Debris

Here are some other reactions:

Sergio Perez analyzes another disappointing qualifying session

For the fourth time in a row, Sergio Pérez will start Sunday’s main race outside the top 10. He stated that he was obstructed by another car during the qualifying session, which was not looked at by the stewards.

Talking to F1.comPerez said:

“We were a little confused, but then as soon as I got the feedback that it was going to (Turn) 10, everything was clear and I was on a good lap, but then all of a sudden on the last lap I found, I think, (Alex) Albon. I went straight, I couldn’t stop. I think I lost a tenth or a little more of that, just by going straight, but the stewards didn’t think I was blocked.”

“There’s a lot of things I can control and unfortunately, that thing where you close a good lap and then all of a sudden you get blocked and you get a penalty,” he added.

It will be great to see how Sergio Perez approaches the two independent events on Saturday hoping to get some momentum going before Sunday’s main race.

On the pre-Sprint weekend, he showed his prowess and got winning form, which was the catalyst for his victory in the main race in Baku. Perez is hoping for something similar on Saturday to salvage another botched weekend.
