The Governor of West Bengal, C. The governor is currently touring the northern regions of West Bengal.

The Governor also visited the ruling Trinamool Congress and Bharatiya Janata Party workers who were undergoing treatment at Dinhata Sub-Hospital after being injured in recent election-related violence.

After reaching Dinhata, Bose first met the family members of local BJP leader Prasanta Basunya who was shot dead on 2 June. While the BJP accused the TMC of killing the party worker, the ruling party denied the allegations.

Later, he interacted with family members of another BJP worker Shambhu Das, who was murdered on 18 June.

Various incidents of election-related violence have been reported in West Bengal since the announcement of the panchayat election schedule and left at least 12 dead so far. The single-phase panchayat elections in West Bengal will be held on July 8 with the counting of votes on July 11.

He also summoned the Union Minister of State for Home Affairs Niseth Pramanik and the local Member of Parliament Bose at the Cooch Behar Circuit House. Bramanek had claimed that the district police were acting on the directives of the Transitional Military Council.

The governor also held talks with a group of six local BJP and local candidates from the Communist Party of India (Marxist) and Congress who had filed complaints against the state police.
Opposition leaders claimed that they were unable to campaign because of the “atrocities committed by the Transitional Military Council”.

Speaking to media professionals after his meeting with the governor, Pramanik said, “We have urged the governor to ensure that law and order are maintained in the run-up to the elections. People should be allowed to exercise their privilege in a free and fair manner. We hope that the governor will take the necessary steps in this regard.”

Meanwhile, Bose’s visit to Cooch Behar sparked a sharp reaction from TMC leader Subendip Chattopadhyay who urged the governor to act in a “non-partisan manner”. “I feel that the ruler should change his shirt. Hold a constitutional office. Act in a non-partisan manner. Unfortunately, he failed to do so,” said the leader of the Transitional Military Council.
