Officers said Delhi Police had arrested another railway official – a senior engineer in the department – in connection with the electrocution death of a 34-year-old woman at New Delhi railway station last week.
Senior officers identified the engineer as Gopal Kumar and said he had joined the investigation. He was restricted under section 41a (Notice to appear before a police officer) of the Code of Criminal Procedure.
“We came to know during the investigation that along with Chief Engineer Bharat Bhushan (40 years old), who was also obligated earlier, he had shared the responsibility in handling the railway station electricity department… We have not yet got a final report from the Deputy Commissioner of Police (DCP),” he said. Police said during the investigation that exposed wires and streets flooded with water due to rain in the city led to the accident. Delhi Police also wrote a letter to the Northern Railway to investigate and “assign responsibility” in the case.
Earlier, Delhi Police had handcuffed Bhushan in connection with the case. On Monday, Northern Railway said it had set up a committee to investigate the accident and had also conducted a safety audit.
