Former Spain, Arsenal, Barcelona and Chelsea midfielder Cesc Fabregas announced his retirement on Saturday and the curtain fell on his illustrious 20-year football career as he stopped coaching Como.
Fabregas announced himself on the scene when he made his Arsenal debut at the age of 16 after being signed from Barcelona, taking over the midfield command from Frenchman Patrick Vieira and becoming one of the greatest playmakers in the Premier League.
After eight seasons at Arsenal, where he won the FA Cup in 2005, he returned to his boyhood club Barcelona for three years and won six titles.
With great sadness, it’s time to hang up our boots.
I will cherish every moment, from the early days at Barcelona, Arsenal and back to Blaugrana, Chelsea, Monaco and finally Como. From the World Cup to the European Championships, victories in England … pic.twitter.com/FclqRMPp94

He then returned to London, this time with Chelsea where he won two Premier League titles and his second FA Cup.
But his greatest success came with Spain, where he earned 110 consecutive caps and European Championships in 2008 and 2012, while providing the assist for the extra-time winner in the 2010 World Cup Final against the Netherlands.
“It is with great sadness that I stop playing shoes,” Fabregas wrote on Twitter.
“From my first days at Barcelona, Arsenal, Barcelona again, Chelsea, Monaco and Como, I will cherish them all.
“From lifting the World Cup, the Euros, to winning it all in England, Spain and almost all European titles, it has been a journey I will never forget.”
It was Fàbregas’ last season in the Italian second division, with Como, where he would begin his coaching career.
“It’s not all so sad though as I will now cross the white line and start coaching my B and Primavera (youth) teams at Como 1907. A team and a project I couldn’t be more excited about,” he added.
This magical football team won my heart from the first minute and came to me at the perfect time in my career. I will hold it with both hands.
“So after 20 incredible years full of sacrifice, dedication and joy, it’s time to say thank you and goodbye to the beautiful game.”
