A primary school principal in Mahisagar has been arrested and booked under the ban law after he was allegedly caught drunk while on duty during a surprise visit by District Primary Education Officer Avaneba Morey on Saturday.
The incident occurred on Saturday morning when Mori, who was on surprise visits to various primary schools in the area, arrived at Vachalwada Primary School in Kadana Taluka.
When the Director of the Office of Basic Education (DPEO) met the headmaster, Sardar Kola Malivad, and asked him questions about the school, he was in an “unsteady” state and “unable to speak coherently”.
Suspecting that Malivad was under the influence, Morey immediately contacted the local police and initiated a formal procedure against him. The principal was brought to Detwas Police Station where he was formally booked under the relevant sections of the Prohibition Act, according to the complaint filed by the district education department. Malivad was arrested after undergoing mandatory medical examinations.
