Defense Minister Rajnath Singh on Saturday warned India’s “neighbor” that if anyone tries to harm the country, an appropriate response will be given.
Speaking at a rally in Chhattisgarh-influenced Kanker district, he also claimed that Left Wing Extremism (LWE) would have been wiped out from the country had the Congress government in Chhattisgarh “cooperated fully”.
He also alleged that forced religious conversions were on the rise in the state.
The public meeting was held at Narhardav High School to highlight the achievements of the Narendra Modi government at the center in the past nine years.
Referring to India’s response after the terrorist attacks in Uri (2016) and Pulwama (2019), Singh said that India has emerged as a strong country under the leadership of Prime Minister Narendra Modi and is not weak anymore.
“Some terrorists from Pakistan stormed into India and attacked our jaws leaving many of them martyred… I was then Home Minister… The Prime Minister held a meeting in Delhi and took a decision within ten minutes. Our army succeeded in neutralizing the terrorists on the soil of Pakistan.
I want to tell my neighbor don’t try to mess with India and don’t try to provoke us. We will not only kill from this side, if necessary we can enter and kill on this side (across the border) as well. “Now India has changed,” Singh added.
Chhattisgarh has been grappling with the threat of left-wing extremism for a long time. Due to effective work under Prime Minister Modi in nine years, its influence has declined. Left wing extremism is now confined to just 10-12 counties. Some of these areas are located in Chhattisgarh. “I can claim that the LWE party would have been wiped out from the country had the Congress government cooperated fully,” Singh said.
Targeting the government of Bhupesh Baghel, the defense minister alleged that incidents of religious conversion were increasing in Chhattisgarh, particularly in the predominantly tribal Bastar district, and said this was unacceptable.
He said that the Congress government must take measures to stop forced conversions to religion, adding that the center will provide support to the state in this regard if necessary.
Highlighting the pro-tribal measures taken by the Modi government, he said it had created a separate budget of Rs 90,000 crore for the welfare of the tribes and announced on November 15 as Gangatya Gaurav Diwas.
Speaking more about tribal well-being in a state where elections are due by the end of the year, the BJP leader said, “The tribal community has played an active role in driving the British out of the country. If we talk about the role of tribal communities in building the country, some feel strange. This means that the country was not told about the contribution of the tribal society and even if it was told very little. After independence, those who ruled the country for many years gave priority to themselves and their politics. The Congress forgot the tribal society and neglected them.”
Houses, latrines and roads are now being built in tribal-controlled areas, power lines are being laid, health facilities and free schools are being provided, Singh added.
He said that Prime Minister Modi has the same commitment to the welfare of Dalits, tribes and backward castes as former Prime Minister Atal Bihari Vajpayee.
Singh also criticized the Bagel government for corruption, claiming that “in five years of Congress rule, frauds have occurred in multiple sectors”.
He referred to the Gothan land scam, ration scam, liquor scam and coal scam in the state, adding that the last one was a favorite of Congress as there was a coal scam when the party was in power at the center also.
“Wherever they go, they commit coal fraud,” he said.
On the promotion of TS Singh Deo to the post of Deputy Chief Minister in Chhattisgarh, Singh said, “They have appointed a Deputy Chief Minister for three months. Baghel ji, you will not be able to save your government by distributing lollipops. People have decided to vote for Congress.”
He said that while the Congress-led scams were riddled with fraud, no one could level a single allegation of corruption against the Modi government.
We do not tolerate corruption. The federal minister added, “If any of our ministers is charged with corruption, his place will be in prison.”
“We have fulfilled our promises to abolish Article 370 running in Jammu and Kashmir and build the Ram Mandir in Ayodhya. There is no other place of worship in the world that will be as splendid as the Ram Mandir being constructed in Ayodhya. People can visit it after January 24 next year.”
Singh also paid tribute to Padma Shri Ajay Mandavi recipient, known for teaching the art of calligraphy to prisoners including those caught in Naxal-related cases in Kanker and encouraged them to return to the mainstream.
Prior to the assembly, Singh visited Mandavi at his home in Kanker as part of the BJP’s Mahajansampark Abhiyan (public awareness campaign).
