Day 1 of LIV Golf Andalucia ended with Smash GC’s Jason Kokrak moving up the leaderboard along with 4Aces GC leader Dustin Johnson. Interestingly enough, for Kokrak to be at the front of LIV Golf Andalucia is sheer luck as he almost never played in the event.
According to the player, his original travel plans from his home in Ohio to Spain ran into multiple problems that caused uncertainty about his participation. The golfer was originally scheduled to fly from Cleveland to Newark, followed by a flight from Newark to Malaga, the largest airport near Valderrama.
However, this plan was canceled due to the cancellation of the flight. The LIV Golf star had to change his plans, and traveled from Cleveland to Detroit, then Detroit to Paris, then Paris to Malaga to get to the venue of the action at Valderrama.
Kokrak’s stress level was above the roof as his travel time increased just hours before the LIV Golf Andalucia outing. This was later made worse as he lost his luggage – especially his clubs – on the way to the event. The 38-year-old did an understatement as he described the incident as “kind of a crazy situation”.
Speaking about his chaotic travel situation to Spain, Jason Kokrak slammed the airlines. LIV Golf quotes him as saying:
“Just people who don’t show up for work, they drive the jet bridge — it’s unfathomable. I understand you have certain situations, but every time. I just don’t get it. I think airlines are at a point where they’re basically relying on which plane flies faster.” To make up time for stupidity.
Furthermore, he opened his luggage, which had been stuck at the airport, with no intention of changing locations, just hours before the event.
Commenting on his lost bags, golfer Lev said:
“I thought my Air Tags were broken, because my luggage hadn’t moved in over a day.
“It’s a crazy situation,” Cochrac added.
The bags were stuck in Paris. Kokrak, along with his coach, Drew Steckel, put together a backup plan and found a local golf shop 20 minutes away to get new clubs.

However, the golfer was lucky. A few hours before the event, Nick Heinen’s girlfriend, fellow Smash teammate Matthew Wolfe’s suitcase caddy, called Kokrak to inform him that she had found his club’s suitcase dumped at the airport she was at. I grabbed the bag and handed it to Kocrak at 5 p.m. on Thursday.
Kokrak finally got his clubs together, with only 20 hours left to play at LIV Golf Andalucia. The golfer played a solid timely spin and played a solid round matching Dustin Johnson’s score.
The first and second places shared the lead by playing -4 at Real Club Valderrama. However, Cocrack was ahead of Johnson by some terms, playing six birdies and two bogeys, compared to his rival’s five bogeys and one bogey.
