The Vadodara City Police has launched an investigation into the death of a married couple – Ashish Mani and his wife Aarti – whose bodies were found from their sixth floor apartment in the Gothri housing colony late on Friday. Their two-and-a-half-year-old son was found in the house.
While the police believe that Ashish died by suicide, they are waiting for the autopsy report to ascertain the cause of Aarti’s death. Ashish’s family members and neighbors told the police that the couple had a marital dispute and fought frequently.
“We got a call from the control room that two dead bodies were found in a flat in Shivalaya flat in Jothri area… When we reached there, we saw that Ashish had died (suicide) while his wife Aarti was lying lifeless on the floor…” said the inspector. MK Gurjar from Guthrie Police Station. “We have confirmed that Ashish most likely took the extreme step, but we will only be able to comment on the cause of Aarti’s death after the autopsy.
Police said Ashish, who was working in a bank, came home around 6pm as usual.
“We are investigating the possible sequence of events to understand what happened after 6pm between the couple… The couple has a young son who was also inside the apartment. Ashish’s family lives in Vadodara and we are entrusting the child to the family after making sure that he will be taken care of.”
An accidental death was recorded and the bodies of Ashish and Aarti were sent for an autopsy on Saturday.
