Kyrie Irving returns to the Dallas Mavericks after reportedly signing a three-year, $126 million contract extension on Friday.
The Mavericks acquired Irving last season in the middle of the season via a trade. Notably, he has a player option in the final year of the deal.
Irving’s return to Dallas was first reported by Shams Charania the athlete. The 31-year-old is looking to find more success next season after failing to make the playoffs this year.

There were initial reports that Irving would meet with several teams but it appears he was already planning on returning to the Mavericks. One of the teams associated with Irving was the Los Angeles Lakers, who brought in Gabe Vincent on a three-year contract.
NBA fans reacted to Kyrie Irving’s return to the Dallas Mavericks on Twitter. The Internet is divided by Irving’s history of asking for trade. He wanted out of the Cleveland Cavaliers, and bailed on the Boston Celtics after saying he wanted to come back and all the things that happened in Brooklyn won’t be forgotten anytime soon.
However, Irving is still one of the most talented players in the NBA when he’s on the court. Injuries and personal controversies have cut short his production over the years but he seems to be playing well with Luka Doncic.
A problem with Dallas was the lack of perimeter defenders to help prevent their opponents from scoring.
One fan thinks Mavericks owner Mark Cuban should sell the team:
Mark Cuban sells everything from a man.
Another fan claimed that Irving meeting other teams was just a tactic:
“Bro was just getting together with other teams to make the Mavericks nervous.”
This fan is happy Lakers fans who thought Kyrie was coming:
“Sorry Lakers fans.”
One Celtics fan expected Irving to ask for a trade in no time:
“Kyrie Irving is about to ask for a deal in a year.”
This fan thinks the Mavs overpaid:
“Holy freaking overpayments.”

Kyrie Irving moves from second to 11th next season
Kyrie Irving will return to his roots next season as he switches from jersey No. 2 to No. 11, according to Mavs reporter Winner Landon Thomas.
Irving wore #11 in high school, in college at Duke and during his stints with the Boston Celtics and Brooklyn Nets.
The reason Irving wore number 11 is as a tribute to his father, Drederick, who wore the same number when he was playing at Boston University. Irving seems to have picked No. 2 at random during his time with the Cleveland Cavaliers. He wore second place last season as a way of paying respect to Jason Kidd.
