Five of the defendants in the indictment have technical backgrounds, and an overseas-based ISIS handler allegedly assigned them to follow courses in robotics to acquire skills to carry out future attacks furthering the terrorist group’s agenda for the country, the federal agency said.

The National Investigation Agency has filed its first supplementary indictment against nine people for their alleged involvement in a case related to the global terrorist organization ISIS plot to carry out terrorist attacks across the country.

Five of the defendants in the indictment have technical backgrounds, and an overseas-based ISIS handler allegedly assigned them to pursue courses in robotics to acquire skills to carry out future attacks in furtherance of the terrorist group’s agenda for the country, the federal agency said.

And I got to know the defendants who were sentenced on Friday, and they are Muhammad Sharq (25), Moaz Munir Ahmed (23), Sayed Yassin (22), Rishan Thajduddin Sheikh (22), Hazir Farhan Bey (22), Mazen Abdul Rahman (22), Nadim Ahmed Khalifa (22), Zaballah (32) and Nadim Faisal N (27).

The investigation agency said all were from Karnataka state and had been charged under the Unlawful Activities (Prevention) Act, Indian Penal Code and the Prevention of Destruction and Loss of Property Act.

Charges were filed against Ahmed and Sayed Yassin in March this year. They are now accused of committing other crimes, the National Intelligence Agency said, adding that they, along with Rishan Thajduddin Sheikh, Mazen Abdul Rahman and Nadim Ahmed, studied mechanical and electrical engineering.

“They have been assigned by an overseas ISIS handler to follow botnet courses to gain skills for future terrorist attacks to advance the ISIS-India agenda,” the Federal Investigation Agency said.

She added that the investigations revealed that Shariq, Mounir and Yassin hatched a criminal plot in collusion with ISIS elements abroad to promote terrorism and violence in the region under the direction of the terrorist organization also known as the Islamic State.

The National Intelligence Agency said the trio actively recruited and recruited the accused with the intention of undermining the security, unity and sovereignty of the country. It said the online dealer funded the defendants through cryptocurrency.

The case was initially registered by the Shivamoga Rural Police on September 19 last year and then taken over and re-registered by the National Intelligence Agency on November 15.
